The machine gunners vest (officially "Cape, Machine Gunners") was a specialized piece of First World War field gear. Made of army-green wool with brushed leather shoulder pads, it was worn by gun crews to prevent slippage and protect their shoulders from the extreme weight and heat of Vickers and Lewis gun barrels. This reasonably priced example is unused and in excellent condition. The last photo shows the cape in use.
