Birmingham hallmark dates to 1912; maker mark is to Cooper Bros. & Sons.
The engraving on the front of the case appears at first glance to be a standard Royal Air Force (RAF) wing. However, it's actually engraved "ARF".
"ARF" wings represent a rare, short-lived, and early variation of the Royal Air Force pilot's wing badge, produced during the very early, chaotic days of the service's formation in 1918.
