WW1 British "On War Service" badge dated 1915. These badges were issued to munition factory workers to show they were essential to the war effort despite not serving directly in the armed forces. Oval brass badge featuring a crown at the top, the inscription "ON WAR SERVICE," and the arms of the Board of Ordnance in the centre. Numbered on the reverse with B4004. Features a buttonhole fastener to be worn on civilian clothing. Maker marked J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd. London.
