The Royal Flying Corps (RFC) side cap (officially the "Field Service Cap") with a white band was worn by Flight Cadets undergoing officer and pilot training. The white band distinguished men who had completed basic infantry training and were selected to undertake flight training. This example is an other ranks quality cap with Imperial general service buttons. The white band is fitted around the buttons and supported on one side with a simple straight pin. The badge is original to the cap but, curiously, it is not a cap badge but rather a gilt collar badge that is maker marked "Roden Bros. Toronto". The cap is in excellent condition with service wear and no markings other than a faint C-broad arrow. An exceptionally nice and rare piece.
