The police cork helmet, known as the "custodian helmet" or "bobby helmet," was introduced in 1863 to replace hot, heavy top hats, with 1865 marking its official adoption by the Metropolitan Police in London. Canadian police departments adopted the helmet in the Victorian period and it was worn to the 1920's and later in some jurisdictions.
This unmarked example is in excellent condition with little wear and no damage. The leather sweatband is subtle and the chin strap is a bit dry but still very flexible. No badge but holes in place for badge lugs. The green satin interior has some very minor defects. It presents very well.
